North cruised to a 54-14 win over Fairfax at home on Friday.

In both team's first 5A Metro regional game this season, the Mustangs (2-4) wasted no time putting their foot on the gas to trample over the winless Stampede (0-6).

“I am expecting my team to really come out with a new revived sense of urgency,” North head coach Mark Mejia. “We are starting region play, at this moment we are 0-0 and our focus is on winning region and going 1-0 today. It is a new beginning to the season, and I believe this will be a good fresh start."

The Mustangs opened the game with an 80-yard touchdown and a field goal to put them up 10-0. After that, senior safety AT Desamais got his first of two interceptions. Senior wide receiver Rorion Jordan (three touchdowns) caught an 82-yard TD on North's next possession. Then North had another successful field goal making the score now 13-0.

North scored more 27 points before halftime, pushing up the lead 40-7.

The Mustangs and Stampede exchanged a few scoring plays during the third quarter, making the score 47-14.

Once fourth quarter came, Jordan scored another TD to expand the lead to 54-14.

During pregame warmups, Desamais and Jordan expressed their expectations on what they needed to do as a team to execute their assignments.

“We plan to do our assignments well and to the best of our ability,” said Desamais. “We need to be extremely aggressive on kickoff and make sure we are executing our plays and getting where we are supposed to be.”

Mejia said in the postgame that he could not have been happier and prouder of his players for following through on what they needed to do tonight to win.

He also praised Jordan on his game tonight and how he was able to takeover.

“That kid has been working his tail off all spring and summer and he is now reaping the rewards of everything he has done," said Mejia. “I couldn’t be more proud of what he is doing and how today he took it to another level.”

North moves on to host Camelback (2-4) next Friday at 7 p.m.
