The Gregory School Hawks varsity basketball team has finished the regular season with an undefeated record of 18-0, ranking them as the #1 seed going into the Super Regional Tournament. With a record of 4-0 in the region, the team is also guaranteed a spot in the state tournament, the first round of which is being held at the Hawks’ home court on February 7th.

This securing of the #1 ranking comes after last Friday’s game against the #3 seed, Desert Christian. Sophomore Jackson Dickinson named this victory the highlight of his season so far, commenting on the significance of “winning the region at Desert Christian, because they’ve beaten us [several] years in a row.” When asked about his favorite away game, sophomore Ben Head said that it would also have to be “Desert Christian, because they were one of our rivals, and it was a close game.”

The team also reflected on their win against the #2 seed, North Valley Christian, which they feel served as redemption following a tough loss to them last season. This year’s game was incredibly close, with a final score of 65-63, but the Hawks ultimately held on to their #1 ranking.

Even throughout several difficult games, the Hawks retained their powerful team dynamics. Senior Bodhi Marks explained that this year the team has “been really positive, so that just uplifts everybody’s play and makes everything flow more easily.”

One of the most integral factors to the team’s success this season has been a strong sense of community. Senior co-captain Carter Reynolds said, “one word to describe this season is family.” He explained that as the team has gotten closer, it’s shown in their performance on the court.

This sentiment was echoed by fellow co-captain David El (senior). David attributed the remarkable season to the team “coming together and playing as one," in addition to the Hawks' obvious talent, dedication, and hard work.

We wish the team the best of luck heading into the state tournament next week, and applaud their massive accomplishment of an undefeated regular season. Hawks on 3... Family on 6!
