Nobody's perfect. But for six and two-thirds innings Thursday night, Amelia Streuber was. 

Canyon del Oro's ace pitcher was also spectacular and dominant, while showing resilience in a 1-0 victory over top-seeded Eastmark in a 4A semifinal victory at Papago Sports Complex.

The third-seeded Dorados advance to the 4A championship game Saturday night against Salpointe at University of Arizona's Hillenbrand stadium in a clash of two Arizona softball heavyweights. Salpointe is gunning for its six straight 4A title, while Canyon del Oro has won nine championships since 1992, most recently in 2017.

Streuber, an Oregon State commit, threw one of the best games of her young career, not allowing a base hit until the seventh inning with two outs. 

"We're all really excited," Streuber said of the win. "This was a great win and we're excited to get back to the championship, expecially playing in Tucson."

If Streuber maintains the same level from the circle demonstrated against Eastmark, the Dorados will be tough to beat. The junior appeared invincible for most of the game, striking out the first 14 Firebird batters and finishing with 18. 

But Eastmark pitcher Lexi Mendez was up for the challenge. The sophomore fanned 12 batters while giving up only two hits.

But in the fifth inning, Eastmark found trouble. After falling 0-2 in the count, Canyon del Oro freshman Jacey Mazura drew a walk which she eventually turned into the game's only run with some clever base running.

After Mazura stole second base, junior Kayla Hendrix hit a short infield pop-up that was misplayed, causing some confusion. While trying to throw out Hendrix, Mazura was able to get around third base and home for the 1-0 lead.

With the way Streuber was dealing, the one run lead may as well have been 10 runs.

Or so it seemed.

In the top of the seventh inning, Streuber quickly struck out two Eastmark batters before Tayler McCombs stepped to the plate. After making solid contact on a foul ball, the lefty McCombs drilled an opposite-field hit deep into left field.

"At first I thought it was a home run," Streuber said of McCombs hit.

The ball didn't have quite enough air to clear the fence, but McCombs easily made it to second base. The perfect game was off the table, but there was still a game to win, and Eastmark had a runner in scoring position. For the first time in the game, Streuber found herself under pressure, but she didn't miss a beat.  

"When we kept (McCombs) at second, I knew it was gonna be ok. I just had to really trust my spin on the ball, and it worked out."

The loss was difficult for Eastmark (26-5) which nearly reached the state title game in its fourth season as a program. 

"What a remarkable ride," coach Darryl Allen said of the seaosn.

"We got better and better as the season moved along and we were able to get past the first round which had set us back the last couple seasons. I couldn't be more proud."
