Save Rock and Roll

After a three-year hiatus, on Feb. 4, 2013, the Chicago pop-punk band Fall Out Boy announced their comeback with a new album, Save Rock and Roll. The band pushed the release date forward from May 7 to April 16. With a new album, world tour, a new look, a new feel and a new sound, Fall Out Boy is back on the music scene.

“We made this music for ourselves and no one else at the end of the day,” said the band about their new album. “This is meant to be played loud, with the windows down on summer nights.”

There has been much speculation as to the temporary split of Fall Out Boy, and fans wondered if the band would ever reunite. When interviewed, the band claimed they had not broken up, and they emphasized the difference between breaking up and taking an indefinite break and “decompressing,” as Pete Wentz stated. Worried Wentz’s personal life and high-profile marriage to Ashlee Simpson was becoming a hindrance to the band, the band members laid low.

“We don’t just want to run off the steam we had forever ago,” lead vocalist Patrick Stump told Fuse News. “We still want to make art that matters...it was a benefit to the process that we did it all in secret...without the world leering over our shoulder.”

Early on in their music career, the fall out boys began experiencing top-charting success. In 2005, their break-out album “From Under the Cork Tree” skyrocketed to Billboard’s Top 10 album chart, along with two, top 10 hits, “Sugar We’re Going Down” and the upbeat “Dance, Dance.” The album went double platinum and landed the band a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.

“When we were kids the only thing that got us through most days was music,” said the band in an interview with People Magazine. “It’s why we started Fall Out Boy in the first place.”

The lead single from the album is “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light ‘Em Up).” The album’s release date will mark the 10th anniversary of the making of their first full-length album, “Take This to Your Grave.”

“Fall Out Boy is one of those bands you can remember listening to when you were younger and still love hearing today, like their classic ‘Dance, Dance,’” said junior Janine Romulo. “I’ve always liked them and thought their music was really upbeat and fun to sing along with. I can’t wait to hear some of their newer songs.”

After a few secret shows in the US, Europe and Australia, the band will embark on the Save Rock and Roll tour from May 14, 2013 to June 30, 2013. On June 11, the band will stop in the valley to play at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Ariz.

“We didn’t want to come back just to bask in the glory days and collect a few checks and pretend…and do our best 2003 impersonation,” said Stump in an interview with gantdaily.com. “We wanted to do something that was us now. And if it wasn’t right, we weren’t going to do it.”

“Every mistake that was made up until now was necessary for us to be here,” Trohman told Fuse news. “The future of Fall Out Boy starts now. Save Rock And Roll.”
