Chandler gains Desert Vista transfer Simone Westbrook soon

Simone Westbrook, the leading scorer the past two seasons for the Desert Vista girls basketball team, has transferred to Chandler High and will begin playing with the Wolves at mid-month.

Westbrook, a 5-foot-9 junior guard who has made a verbal commitment to ASU, enrolled at Chandler on Jan. 4. With the proper paperwork in order, Westbrook must sit out 10 school days befor being eligible to play for the Wolves. Chandler athletic director Dave Shapiro said he first day Westbrook will be eligible to play is Jan. 18.

Westbrook averaged 16.5 points a game last season for Desert Vista and has two brothers who played at Chandler in the past. One was Lawrence Westbrook, who set a state single-season scoring record for the Wolves in 2005.
