Sixth Man for Brophy no longer seems to be a factor

January 21, 2011 by Don Ketchum, AZPreps365

The words are high on the north wall of Phoenix Brophy Prep’s gymnasium.
“Home of the Sixth Man.’’
The sixth man is Brophy’s crowd, primarily the student section, long noted for its cantankerous ways.
Back in the days when current Brophy athletic director John Chambers was basketball coach and Mark Alarie was the star, the crowd was an intimidating factor and continued to be over the years, much like those in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
It certainly wasn’t intimidating on Friday night (Jan. 21), when the Broncos played host to Phoenix Desert Vista.
Brophy’s fans were outcheered by a spirited group in support of Desert Vista. The student crowd had more spirit for Brophy’s soccer match against Chandler Hamilton on Wednesday night (Jan. 19).
What happened? Has Brophy’s “Sixth Man’’ become a ghost?
