Salpointe senior standout lineman Justin Holt, 6-foot-2, 300 pounds, has committed to the University of Arizona and is slated to play in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl this December.

Holt’s parents received a phone call from none other than former Arizona and Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Byron Evans informing them of Justin’s selection to the bowl game to be played in Dallas. Justin’s father, Julius, also played linebacker for the Wildcats.

Evans will be coaching the linebackers at the Blue-Grey game.

Holt is considered to be one of the top defenders in the state and certainly one of the top two to three in Southern Arizona. We sat down with Holt and asked him a few questions as part of our extensive football preview:

Q: Can you tell us about your individual growth from freshman to now?

A: "My individual growth from my freshman year to my senior year has been a transformation physically and mentally.

"Over the last three years, my body has changed and my strength and speed have improved. I've learned to compete the Salpointe way by making a commitment to my team, coaches, and school by giving my best at all times."

Q: Losing Jamarye Joiner and Teauntae Nash is an obvious loss but Salpointe has lost great talent before. Can you explain how the team will move on and reload?

A: "We wish they could have been part of our season, but that said, we will continue to move forward and I believe we have the weapons to compete at those positions with the players we have. I'm looking forward to our team having a great season and competing for another State Championship."

Q: Can you talk a bit about your University of Arizona commitment with your father going there also?

"Arizona has always been a part of my life, my dad played there, worked there, my 'uncles' LaMonte (Hunley), Ricky (Hunley), Randy (Robbins) and my Godfather Van Brandon also played there and I've was always been around the program. My plan is to make a name for myself at Arizona and go hard everyday and every play. This is and opportunity of a life time."

Q:  Is there anything else you want us to know?

A: "I'm looking forward to our team having a great season and competing for another State Championship."
