Freshman Aubrey Griffin of Ossining (NY) powered her team to a 2-0 week by averaging 41.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.0 assists.


ATLANTA (January 19, 2016) – The WBCA has announced its High School Players of the Week presented by MaxPreps for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 17.

In its inaugural year the WBCA High School Player of the Week is presented to a deserving student-athlete who demonstrated outstanding play throughout the week. Head coaches submit nominations each week and the WBCA selects the individual based on stats that were submitted.

The winners are:

Region 1

Shaquana (Shaq) Edwards, a 5-foot-7 senior from Weaver High School in Hartford, Connecticut, helped lead the Beavers to a 2-0 record on the week while improving to 8-2 on the season. Edwards, a captain for the Beavers, averaged 32.0 point, 4.5 rebounds and steals, as well as 3.5 assists in the two games. In a 66-64 win against Farmington High School on Jan. 13, Edwards converted on 11-of-12 two-point field goal attempts.

Region 2
Aubrey Griffin, a versatile player for Ossining High School (Ossining, New York), propelled her program to its fifth straight victory following two wins on the week. The 5-foot-11 freshman ended the week averaging 41.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.0 assists. Griffin notched 21-of-24 free throw attempts in a 104-90 win against Peekskill High School on Jan. 15 to improve to 12-2 on the season.

Region 3
Emily Marie Conroe, a 5-foot-10 captain for Fairfax Home School (Fairfax, Virginia), guided the Hawks to a 3-1 record on the week. The junior capped the week averaging 24.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 6.3 steals, 4.8 assists and 2.0 blocks. Conroe tallied her 15th double-double of the season against Seton High School on Jan. 15.

Region 4
Kristen Spolyar, a 5-foot-11 senior from Lebanon High School (Lebanon, Indiana), finished the week averaging 38.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.0 steals, 4.0 assists and 1.0 blocks, as the Tigers closed out the week with two wins to improve to 16-6 overall. The shooting guard has posted 25-plus points in each of the Tigers' 22 games this season.

Region 5
Josie Perez, a 5-foot-6 junior from Gordon-Rushville High School (Gordon, Nebraska), completed the week averaging 25.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists and steals, as the Mustangs went 2-1 on the week to move to 8-5 overall. Perez posted a season-best eight steals in a 59-26 win against Hay Springs High School on Jan. 15.

Region 6
Cassie Vickery, a junior captain from Tularosa High School (Tularosa, New Mexico) has helped lead the Wildcats to a perfect 16-0 record following four wins last week. The 5-foot-6 guard registered 26.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 1.0 assists for the week. She tied her season best of 31 points, as the Wildcats knocked off Dexter High School 82-53 on Jan. 15.

Region 7
Liz Eaton, a 5-foot-10 senior from Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork, Utah, earned a season-high 41 points against Salem Hills High School on Jan. 12. Eaton concluded the week averaging 37.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals, as the Golden Eagles improved to 10-2 overall.

Region 8
Terrin Sullivan, a 5-foot-8 captain for Middle College High School in Los Angeles, California, helped navigate the Cougars to four wins on the week, as the program extended its win streak to seven games. The senior averaged 24.8 points, 8.25 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 3.25 steals and blocks on the week. Sullivan recorded her eighth double-double of the season, with 30 points and 10 rebounds, as the Cougars beat Port of Los Angeles 87-18 on Jan. 15.

Region 9

Alexis Gordon, a senior from Covenant Christian High School in Palm Bay, Florida, averaged 22.8 points over four games for the Lions as they went 2-2 on the week to improve to 15-5 overall. She tied her season best of 30 points in a 78-47 victory against Space Coast High School on Jan. 12.
