Canyon del Oro beat Sabino 6-3 Thursday to improve to 4-0 on the year while Sabino fell to 0-3. Leading the way for the Dorados was freshman Iain Morton. Morton defeated senior Rory Albrecht 6-1, 6-1 on the first court.

“This feels really good,” Morton said. “When we started practicing coach tapped me and told me I was going to be his top player this year.  It’s been fun and I credit our skill level and teamwork for our success so far.”

The Dorados won the top four singles matches and clinched the win with a victory in the first doubles match, an 8-4 win by Morton and Chase Schoof over Albrecht and Logan Place.

The Dorados made it to the first round of the Division II playoffs last year and No. 2 Andres Mendoza made it to the third round of the D-II singles championship in 2015. The Sabercats also competed in D-II last year but did not make the playoffs. The Dorados will continue to compete in D-II this year while Sabino was shifted to D-III.

The Sabercats will travel to Buena (2-0) on Tuesday, Mar. 7 while Canyon del Oro will host Tucson (0-1) on the same night.
