Flowing Wells Tournament of Champions

Sept. 22-23: Silverbell GC

Ironwood Ridge standout Jarrod Johnson played his usual even game this past weekend to help pace Ironwood Ridge to victory at the Flowing Wells Tournament of Champions Invitational held at Silverbell Golf Course.

“I think I could be more solid on my birdie putts from 15 feet in but I think I’m playing pretty well right now,” Johnson said. “What I shoot on the first day is pretty close to what I’m shooting on the second day so my game is consistent this year.”

Johnson shot a 1-over 71 on Friday and he came back to shoot an even 70 on Saturday to overtake his teammate Kamden Kautz who went into Saturday with a 2-under 68 and finished in second place with a 144. Canyon del Oro standout Jack Call shot a 6-under 64 on the first day but withdrew from the tournament.

Johnson and Kautz and teammate Cory Buechler all finished in the top ten to help lead the Nighthawks past Salpointe 591-614. Sabino took third place (622).

Tucson standout Virgil Morales (no relation) came in four strokes back (145) to take third and Tyler Coxworth (Buena) shot 146 to finish in fourth place. Dallan Graybill (Rincon/University), Alex Gray (Sabino) and Chaisen Alloway (Sabino) tied for fifth place with a 149.

The Division II tournament for the boys will take place on Oct. 23-24 at the Omni Tucson National and D-I will take place on Oct. 30-31 on the same course.
