Grant Schreyer grew up in Arizona and was homeschooled until the sixth grade.

“When I was homeschooled, I tried to be involved in everything so I could have friends,” Schreyer said.

The Scottsdale Christian senior quarterback, who also handles the kicking and punting duties. wants more than friends now.

“I want to be successful. I just don’t know how yet,” Schreyer said. “I want to get into business or marketing.”

His best friend on the team, Tanner Gibson, chuckled when he heard Schreyer’s ambitions. “Yeah that sounds like him.”

Tanner and Grant have been best friends since freshman year.

“We spend every weekend together almost. He’s a brother to me,” Gibson said.

Schreyer, 6-0, 160, grew up a huge fan of soccer.

“I always played it growing up in the rec leagues and all that. I mean I never watched it really but I always liked it.”

Soccer is one of his favorite things to talk about along with sports and cars.

Although he is from Arizona, he grew up watching the Cowboys and said Dak Prescott is an athlete he tries to learn from.

Schreyer spends his free time hanging out with friends or playing video games. His games of choice are Fortnite or FIFA.

A self-proclaimed cat lover, Schreyer is a laid-back person who makes a good impression on others.

His relaxed attitude doesn’t bring out his personality to its fullest extent.

“He brings other people’s spirits up,” coach Jason Cauley said. “Everyone wants to be around him and that’s not just because he’s the cool kid, he has a great character.”

Schreyer is a leader by example for the rest of the team and it shows in practices and the scoreboard. Scottsdale Christian is 2-1 going into Friday’s game against Veritas.

Schreyer has put up 376 yards, four touchdowns and one interception on the season. He’s also completed 64 percent of his passes with a quarterback rating of 129.

“Grant is probably the best-looking athlete I’ve ever coached,” Cauley said.

Added Gibson: “He doesn’t give up, and he’s very trustworthy.”

Schreyer is also an excellent student. “I find it odd because it just comes so naturally to him,” Gibson said.

Schreyer is actively looking around in-state colleges to attend but has not made a decision yet.
