Tempe Preparatory Academy took on Globe High School for their last home game of the 2018 season on Friday night, losing 28-0.

The Knights came in confident after defeating the San Carlos Braves 29-18 last week, only to come back with a shutout loss.

The Globe Tigers won their game last week against against San Manuel, a team that also beat Tempe Prep earlier in the season by only four points.

For the majority of the season, the Knights have suffered from numerous injuries, but Friday’s game had 15 healthy players out of the total of 18 on the roster.

Despite showing signs of life throughout the game, the Knights failed to finish multiple drives and were unable to put the ball in the end zone for a successful senior night win.

The Tigers got off to a good start when their quarterback, Caden Hansen, ran the ball up the middle on second and 12, putting the first points on the board with 10:32 left in the first quarter.

Tempe Prep sophomore quarterback Hayden Sampson was on the return, taking the ball to their own 43 yard-line, making it first and 10 for the Knights. However, they continually stalled out and could not capitalize on their first drive.

The trend continued throughout the game as the Knights struggled to piece together drives and put points of their own on the board, heading into halftime 20-0.

With dropped passes, costly interceptions and the lack of tackles, the Knights’ hope was diminished for any type of comeback in the second half.

Even with the dynamic duo of Sampson and wide receiver Darrell Bailey, the team still could not pull through.

“It is definitely not one of my best games,” Sampson said, “We need to bring more focus at the start of the game… When we get tired, just stay focused.”

The Tigers scored their fourth and last touchdown of the night with 7:58 left in the fourth quarter, then went on to run it into the end zone for the two-point conversion, putting eight more points on the board.

“We just focus on us.” Globe head coach Nathan Morales said, “It’s discipline, effort and attitude. It’s just part of the process that we believe in and if we do what we’re supposed to, we’re going to come out on top.”

This shutout for Globe puts them at 5-4, sending them into their last game next week against their rival, Miami High School.

Due to injuries, there was only one senior out of the two padded up to play for the blue and gold.

With this game being his last at home, senior Caleb Brittain said, “I’m just giving it all I got. It’s about finishing it, playing hard and having fun.”

The Knights will be going into their last game of the season against Chandler Preparatory Academy with a record of 3-7.

“We got beat by a really good football team.” Tempe Prep head coach Larry Cain said, “We’re young. We’ve known that this was a rebuilding year.”

The Knights face the Chandler Prep Titans for their last game of the season next Friday at Chandler Prep. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
