Omni Tucson National Catalina: Sept. 27-28

 

Typically played in the Phoenix area, the Red Mountain/Mesa “Rivalry Cup” was played on the Catalina Course of the Omni Tucson National on Friday and Saturday. The Catalina Course will be the home course for the AIA State Golf Championship this fall.

Chaparral senior standout Nicky Kling shot a 4-under-par 142 to capture the individual championship by seven strokes over Brady Haake of Gilbert when adjusted for 36-holes. Ironwood Ridge standout Jarrod Johnson took third.

Kling shot a 3-under 70 on Friday to take control of the field heading into the second round and his 1-under 72 on Saturday solidified his victory. Landry Schmoker and Mason Roberts of Lubbock-Cooper, Texas were the only other golfers to shoot an under par round in the tournament.

Brophy captured the team championship by ten strokes over Lubbock-Cooper. Chaparral took third.
