On Friday, October 11, Prescott Badgers hosted the football game between long-time rivals Bradshaw Mountain Bears. The game was only the second game played on Prescott High School’s new turf field and ended in a victory for the home team.

The rivalry between Bradshaw and Prescott high began in 1993.  The two schools are only about 15 miles apart, making the competition between the schools heavily attended by both teams. The winner of the gridiron battle earns the right to the “Esse Quam Videri 19” cup,  which honors the 19 firefighters who lost their lives in the Yarnell fire. And since Prescott’s 22-19 win over Bradshaw, the cup will remain at Prescott, which now has won the battle between the two schools for the past three years.

The new field at Prescott High was completed mere weeks ago before the Eagles versus Badgers game. The old field was torn up and presented a major safety hazard. In addition to safety concerns, the yearly maintenance on the field was a large chunk out of PHS’s budget. The new field, which is richly colored,  is made up of turf that will save 80 to 100 thousand dollars in field repair and in water per year.

During the game, the Badgers ran an impressive 399 yards in total over the entirety of the game. On the Badgers side players Aaron Greene, Brayden Nelson, Dellinger Boyd and Clay Gross scored touchdowns. On the Bears side they had Josh Grant, M. Hernandez, and Grant Sanders score. The Bears ran a total of 324 yards over the game with Titus King leading the yards gained for Bradshaw. The Badgers, in the final seconds of the game, scored the final touchdown with a 2 point conversion to prevent the Bears from winning the game with a field goal.
