Arcadia standout Gavin Aurilia shot a 4-under-par 69 to take a 2-stoke lead at the Division II state tournament held at the Tucson Omni. The first and second rounds on the boy’s side are taking place on the Catalina Course.

The USC commit took fourth place last year.

Higley leads the team scoring with a 12-over 304. The Knights have never won a state golf championship. Arcadia is three shots back and the Titans won the championship in 2017 and 2018 for 11 total in program history.

From Southern Arizona, Salpointe freshman Carlos Astiazaran is seven shots off the pace with a 3-over-par 76. As a team, the Lancers are only 14 strokes back of Higley in fifth place. Ironwood Ridge is in eight place.

On the girl’s side, Catalina Foothills senior Maya Benita and Ironwood Ridge standout Hannah Ports are tied at the top of the leaderboard with a 4-under 67 on the Sonoran Course. Millennium standout Madeline Laux is in third place, 2 shots back.

Benita, a University of Arizona commit, took second last year, Ports took 14th and Laux came in fourth.

As a team, Ironwood Ridge leads Catalina Foothills by five strokes and Cactus Shadows is 10 strokes back. The Falcons of Cactus Shadows have won the last three state championships and seven overall. The Nighthawks took second last year and the Falcons of Catalina Foothills have won four state championships.
