After starting off the season undefeated, the Hamilton Huskies may never know what could have been.

“The 3-0 start was just the beginning of what this team would of accomplished. I hope we get an opportunity to finish what I know would be a state championship season,” said head coach Rocky Parra.

Following the initial two week shut down, things have gotten worst for the whole country, amid fear of spreading the coronavirus even further. On Monday, the AIA cancelled all spring sports.

“There were quite a few districts that shut down before us, so we were all mentally preparing ourselves for the same news. The hardest part was telling the kids,” said coach Lauren Regester.

As time goes on, so do games missed. “It sucks because all we can do is sit at home, do home workouts and try to find a field to get a little work in,” said senior pitcher Sabrina Gonzalez.

“It’s really hard sitting at home trying to stay positive, knowing we could be out on the field,” said freshman third baseman Cailynn Parsons.

However, no players have lost motivation. “We are all continuing to get the reps in so that if we are lucky enough to take the field one more time we will come out on top,” said senior third baseman Teagan Dobson.

“I wasn’t actually grasping that our season could be postponed and then when it happened it didn’t feel real,” said junior pitcher Loganne Stepp.

The Huskies are trying to adapt to a new normal much like the rest of the world is, a quarantine lifestyle. On Monday students started online classes.

But just because the Huskies season has been canceled doesn’t mean the girls aren’t working hard to keep their skills sharp.

“Something that has kept the coaches spirits high is seeing how hard our girls are working on their own. They’ve been posting videos of them playing catch with family members, hitting off a tee in their backyards, and getting in home workouts,” said Regester.

The coaches have been in communication with the players on an almost daily basis.
