The Rincon/University girls scored well in their first game of the year with a round of 162 at the Dell Urich Golf Corse on Monday. The team ranking of 33.278 temporarily puts the program in the top 12 for Division I but the team needs at least five more rounds and finish in the top 12 to qualify for state. Maddie Greene and Lily Huether led the way with identical rounds of 38 on the day.

Greene finished in 29th place at the D-II playoffs last year but the Rangers are competing in D-I this fall. Huether is a tennis and golf standout and the freshman is sure to improve the chances of Rincon/UHS qualifying as a team for state. Greene qualified as an individual last year.

“This year, I really like the girls on my team and our friendships,” Greene said before the season started. “There are different skill levels, but everyone is still working hard and being supportive of others. I think that our team works well together, and everyone is very compassionate and friendly with each other.”

Cassidy Morrow, a three-sport athlete for the Cougars, was the only athlete from the program to qualify for the D-II state playoffs last fall. She led her team with a 41.
