On Saturday, October 3, the Chandler Prep Titans hosted the Stallions of Sequoia Charter for a rematch and the Titans’ second big win over this team. Final scores were 25-6, 25-9, and 25-10. Despite the Titan dominance, as they did in the first match with the Stallions, Senior Holly Gialketsis had this to say about the difference:

“I think we had less energy than last time, because we didn’t really go on that many service runs, and last time we went on almost 25 of them, but we still played well.”

Gialketsis herself did go on two striking service runs in the latter two games of nine and eight points respectively along with five consecutive aces in the first game.

The Stallions struggled to score while serving throughout the match with no points scored offensively in the first game and then suffered through a nine-point dry spell at the start of the second game. Contributing to some of their struggles on the offensive, Sequoia Charter was missing a couple key players in Saturday’s match. Their head coach said this:

“It was different today, because people are trying to learn rotations and positions that they are not used to, but for the most part, you know, Chandler Prep is a very strong team so we just had to work with what we had and make the best of it.”

The Titans showed their ferocity at the net, as has come to be expected, but with some new faces making an impact. Namely, Junior Mia Evers and Sophomore Ashlyn Unruh, with four and five kills respectively, performed very well throughout the match.

When asked if he thought the Titans would remain undefeated this year, Chandler Prep Head Coach Jones said this:

“I think we are capable of doing it, but I wouldn’t say for sure. We have to keep playing at the level we’ve been playing at in order to do that, so we’ll see down the road after fall break how we come back and play.”

The Titans return to action after fall break on Tuesday, October 13 in a home rematch against the Sequoia Pathway Pumas at 6:00pm. Titan Up.
