The Freshman Lady Matadors Defeat the Moon Valley Rockets

The Lady Matadors celebrate their victory over the Moon Valley Rockets.

PHOENIX- The Lady Matadors versus the Rockets, there is a lot to be expected. Determination and grit went up against passion and excitement. The Shadow Mountain High School freshman girls volleyball team defeated the Moon Valley High School frosh in an intense match, winning 2-0.

 

The Rockets started the first game off strong, leading 2-0 after a missed serve from the Lady Matadors.

 

Shadow Mountain struggled early in the set, losing a few rallies, but found its footing quickly. Deploying great teamwork and long rallies, Shadow Mountain tied the game at 14.

 

Samantha Torrez, with a hard-hit serve, helped the Lady Matadors take the lead 15-14. This serve was the turning point, and the Lady Matadors found their confidence battling through the rest of the game.

 

The first game was close, with both teams rallying and playing hard. In the end, the Lady Matadors won the first game, 24-21.

 

The confidence from the first game carried over to the second, and the Lady Matadors never looked back. Shadow Mountain jumped out to a 9-0 lead with great serves that the Rockets just could not keep up with.

 

The Lady Matadors were playing with grace and ease, their communication and team- work made for a fluid performance.

 

In contrast, the Rockets were showing their frustration, with some of the calls, along with their fans. One fan was particularly frustrated, yelling, “Get off the court if you don’t want to play.”

 

The Rockets played with intensity trying to catch the Lady Matadors and were able to score 15 points. Shadow Mountain’s early lead propelled them to victory,  however, as it won the clinching game winning the set 25-15.

The Lady Matadors won the match 2-0 and look to finish the season strong.
