Shadow Mountain JV volleyball fights hard but falls to Moon Valley

(PHOENIX)- Matadors are tough, strong, and never back down from a fight. They battle with every fiber of their being trying to overpower the raging bull they face. They are gritty and determined to win at all costs. Unfortunately, all battles do not end in victory. Sometimes the intensity and strength of the Matador is just not enough.

The Shadow Mountain JV Girls Volleyballl team fell to the Moon Valley High School Rockets in a fierce contest on Thursday, 25-21, 25-21.

Shadow Mountain came out fighting early with a strong rally and scored first. Freshman Calynn Kruse came up with a powerful spike to tie the game at 2.

The Lady Matadors and the Moon Valley Rockets kept the game close, each battling for the lead. The Rockets fought and tied the game at 4, but the Lady Matadors were determined to stay on top.

The score kept flipping, each team taking their turn on top. The Lady Matadors had encouragement from their fans. “Keep fighting girls, keep fighting, fight it out,” the fans cheered.

The spirited fans kept the Lady Matadors motivated and thirsty to win. They battled hard, but ultimately lost the first set 25-21.

After losing the first set the Lady Matadors came out with a hunger for victory. Freshman Rain Brooks started with strong serves, quickly giving Shadow Mountain the lead, 6-0.  

Some miscommunication between the Lady Matadors caused some problems during this set.  Moon Valley scored five unanswered points to get themselves back in the game.

The set was close, each team diving and saving the ball. Both teams were determined to rise above the other.

“Lets go ladies, battle,” encouraged Shadow Mountain Coach Giana Kioa.

The Lady Matadors were able to tie the set at 20 with the motivation of their coach. Shadow Mountain ended the game scoring 21 points, but unfortunately it was not enough.

Shadow Mountain trailed 21-24 and had control of the ball. They were ready to fight it out but the referee ruled that Shadow Mountain was out of rotation, awarding the game point to Moon Valley.

The second set ended with Moon Valley winning 25-21 and they took the match 2-0. Shadow Mountain’s fight t was not enough to get the victory.
