Corona del Sol got the pitching it needed on Wednesday to knock off top-ranked Perry and its run support came via a huge assist from the Pumas.

Corona senior Emmalyn Brinka tossed a four-hitter and Perry helped the 11th-ranked Aztecs to five runs with an array of walks and throwing errors in a 5-2 victory at Corona del Sol.

The victory improved Corona to 11-9 overall and 7-3 in power-ranking games. Perry fell to 19-3, 9-2.

Brinka, headed to the University of Memphis this fall, dominated Perry. She threw a complete game, walked one and struck out 11. Seven of the Ks were in succession from the first through third innings.

Corona staked Brinka to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. A walk to Gina Jackson and sacrifice by Jaclyn Ibarra set up the run. The first of three Perry throwing errors allowed Jackson to score.

Brinka got two more runs to work with in the third. Another walk for Jackson, stolen base and the second throwing error made it 2-0. Teagan Newman provided Corona with its first RBI - an infield single scoring Bella Cummins.

Perry pulled within 3-1 in the fifth with an unearned run off Brinka. Corona answered by finishing its support for Brinka with two runs in the last of the fifth. Bella Freund's RBI triple and another throwing error sent Freund home. Freund finished with two RBI.

Both schools next opponent is Red Mountain. Corona hosts Red Mountain on Friday while Perry travels to Red Mountain on April 12.
