Westwood's girls volleyball hasn't been prone to lengthy power-ranking matches this season. The Warriors are 6-1 in such affairs and each one has ended 3-0 for the victor.

Victory No. 6 was achieved Tuesday night with Westwood sweeping region-rival Skyline in the 6A East Valley Region opener for both schools at Warrior Gym. Scores were 25-17, 26-24, 25-18. Skyline dropped to 5-3 in power-ranking matches.

The key set was the second as Skyline made a bid to even the match at 1-1. The Coyotes appeared on the way to doing just that building the set's largest lead at 16-12. A 6-0 Westwood run put the Warriors back in control. Skyline pecked away and tied it several times - 20-20, 21-21, 22-22, 23-23 and 24-24. Westwood sapped Skyline's resolve with the final two points - a kill by Parley Tingey and block from Rachel Porter.

Westwood never trailed in the third set, leading mostly by three or four-points and building on that at the 15-point mark. Porter, Tingey and Arys Palmer combined for 10 kills - four, three and three, respectively, in the set.

Leading Westwood's attack (unofficial totals) was Tingey (13 kills), Porter (10 kills) and Palmer (5 kills). Skyline's kill leaders -- Ashley Palacios (4 kills) and Brianna Anderson and Lexiana Petty with three kills apiece.

Westwood is right back at it Wednesday hosting Alhambra. Skyline's next match is Thursday with a road- and region-match vs. Dobson.
