Ngonkra Fuangunyi's hat trick helps Empire defeat Marana 5-0

Empire beat Marana 5-0 Wednesday at the Mountain Lion Winter Cup held at Mountain View Marana. Play continues tomorrow in the round robin format.
Empire junior Ngonkra Fuangunyi recorded a hat trick with a goal in the 6th minute, the 34th and the 40th. Fuangunyi was also fouled in the 26th and junior Daniel Dittiger was called upon to make the kick in the 26th. Dittinger would score again in 53rd for the 5-0 final. Empire put together nine shots in the game to five for Marana.
In other action, Mountain View standout senior Roman Mironenko scored a lone goal early to help defeat Pueblo 1-0.
The TUSD Ismael Arce Memorial Cup is slated to start on Jan. 2 on the Tucson High and Palo Verde campuses. Ismael Arce coached the Badgers to a state title in 2014 and he passed way in 2021.
