Recap - Sunrise Mountain vs. Verrado

Sunrise Mountain played host to Verrado High School on August 31, dominating the second year varsity program 49-0. Neither team score on their first possessions of the game, but Sunrise quarterback Dylan Touvell connected with Elroy Masters on a 42-yard reception, which was their third of the season, to take the 7-0 lead.

On the following kick off, Verrado muffed the return and started their next drive on the 5-yard line. However, the Vipers turned the ball over as Coleman Mower recovered the fumble and ran the ball back for a Mustang touchdown and the 14-0 lead.

Verrado was forced to punt and four plays later Masters scored again on a 43-yard reception. On 3rd and 7 on the 9-yard line, the Sunrise defense forced pressure on Verrado, causing a short throw, which was picked by Corey Brown for six and the 28-0 lead. The Mustangs added two more scores before the end of the first half, one by Nick Haleman and the other from Masters.

Late in the third quarter, Verrado’s pressure on the offensive line, paid off as Corey Aoys sacked Neiman Sneed behind the line of scrimmage. Sunrise was forced to go for the 27-yard field goal attempt, but came up short and the Mustangs led 42-0 at the end of three quarters of play.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Sunrise was at 3rd and long on their 42-yard line when Verrado was called for roughing the passer, with resulted in the next play which sent Elijah Castro down the field on a 43-yard touchdown reception to improve the Mustangs lead 49-0 for the win.
