One is coming. One is going.

But Friday night freshman Alex Barcello and senior Casey Benson were together for a memorable performance in helping Corona del Sol reach the Division I boys final for the third year in a row.

Benson and Barcello combined for 51 points as Corona (32-1) erased an early deficit and outlasted Perry, 78-66, in the Division I boys semifinals. Corona faces Pinnacle in the D-I final on Saturday (March 1) at 3 p.m. at Jobing.com Arena in a rematch of last year's title game.

Benson, bound for Oregon this fall, pumped in 30 points with his usual court presence. Benson added five rebounds and six assists. And Barcello, the heir apparent for Benson's job next year, was outstanding.

Barcello calmly and cooly stepped into action with Corona down 15-7 in the first period. He scored seven points in a 14-0 run that put Corona back in front to stay. Barcello remained in the game and finished the opening half with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Barcello was an efficient  7 of 10 shooting from the field with a pair of threes and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line.

"Alex gave us a shot of adrenaline," Corona del Sol coach Sam Duane Jr. said. "He changed the whole game. Put us on his back when he came in."

Benson echoed Duane's thoughts on Barcello.

"He's good, and they're going to be some great pieces to work with," Benson said after he's gone in one more game. "He's mature for his age. He showed it tonight."

Perry freshman Markus Howard led his team with 26 points, including four 3s. Markus Howard took 24 shots to get his 26 points, making 10. Forward Geoffrey Vredevoogd (14 points) and Jordan Howard (12) were the other Pumas in double figures.
