Corona del Sol and Gilbert Christian lived up to their billing as the 1 and 2 seeds, respectively, Friday night in advancing to the semifinals of the 5th annual PrimeTime Boys Hoops Invitational at Chaparral High School.

Corona sophomore center Marvin Bagley III enjoyed a pair of big games and sophomore guard Saban Lee, who came off the bench last season for the four-time Division I champion Aztecs, stood out in 64-61 exhibition win over Mesa Mountain View and a 67-48 trumph in bracket play over No. 8 Basha. Bagley III, the top college recruit in the country in some circles, had one of the better games of the tourney Day 1 hitting for 31 points vs. Mtn. View.

Two starters returning from Division II state champ Gilbert Christian were on their games as the Knights won an exhbition tilt over Desert Vista, 61-51, and prevailed in bracket play over No. 7 Chaparral, 62-42. Senior guard Cameron Satterwhite tallied 23 points vs. Desert Vista and  senior post Mitch Lightfoot poured in 25 points vs. Chaparral.

No. 3 Shadow Mountain got a pair of solid games from senior guard JJ Rhymes in posting a 41-35 win over Basha (exhibition) and a 62-43  decision over No. 6 Mesa Mtn. View (bracket play). Rhymes connected for 15 points vs. Basha and 25 in beating Mesa Mtn. Viiew.

No. 5 seed, scrappy Perry HIgh, worked hard for wins over Chaparral (65-60 exhibition) and No. 4 Desert Vista (61-54 bracket play). Senior guards Jordan Harris and Kyle Van Haren were instrumental in the victories. Harris scored 15 points and 19 points, respectively, in the twin wins while Van Haren hit for 13 points in the triumph over Chaparral.

Saturday's games begin mid-morning and conclude early afternoon. Here's the schedule for final day of the tourney at Chaparral HS:

Consolation bracket games: 10 a.m. -- Basha vs. Desert Vista and Mountain View vs. Chaparral. Championship bracket games:  11 a.m. -- Corona del Sol vs. Perry and Shadow Mountain vs. Gilbert Christian. Consolation bracket games: Noon -- 10 a.m. winners play and 10 a.m. losers play. Championship and 3rd-place games: 1 p.m. -- Title game = Corona-Perry winner vs. Shadow Mountain-Gilbert Christian winner; 1 p.m. 3rd-place = Corona-Perry loser vs. Shadow Mountain-Gilbert Christian loser.
