Red Mountain's turnaround with the arrival of Timmy Allen continued Thursday night in the Battle on Brown Road.

Allen, like nearly every player on the floor, shook off a rough first  half and willed Red Mountain to a 50-39 victory over Mountain View at Toro Gym.

Red Mountain, resting at No. 25 in the 6A power rankings prior to the game, is now 5-6 in power-ranking games. Mountain View entered at No. 4 and is 5-3 in those contests after the losing this one.

Allen, a 6-foot-6 junior, netted 22 points when the final buzzer sounded. He scored 17 points in the second half as the Mountain Lions were able to pull away in the final period from a tight game. The victory was the fifth in six games for Red Mountain (11-8, 3-1 6A East Valley Region) since Allen became eligible via his transfer from Desert Ridge.

"Everyone has high expectations for him and maybe they are too high," Red Mountain coach Todd Fazio said. "I know he's handled it very well."

While Allen's 17 points  in the second half (Red Mountain scored 26 points after intermission) were instrumental, perhaps the greatest lift came from senior guard Andres Mayberry off the bench.

Mayberry has started often this season, but he was the sixth man in this one. He hit for 11 points in the opening half and finished with 14. While Allen was mkaing just  2-of-8 shots from the field, Mayberry hit 4 of 9, including three treys that helped Red Mountain take a 24-22 lead at the half.

Also helping Red Mountain's offense while Allen struggled in the first half was forward Chance Johns. Johns made three layups and a dunk in the first half and capped the game with another layin to finish with 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting.

"Allen was going to get his points, we knew that," Mountain View coach Gary Ernst said. "We knew that. Those threes Mayberry made hurt. We hadn't seen that before from him. I think that was the difference."

Mayberry's fourth three of the game put Red Mountain up 39-31 in the first minute of the fourth quarter. Mountain View (10-5, 1-1) whittled the deficit to 39-36 after Nick Sessions completed a three-point play with 4:16 to go.

Sessions, Mountain View's top scorer and its most consistent this season, battled to collect a team-high 12 points. Sessions connected on 5 of 20 shots for the evening.

"Our goal was to take Sessions away," Fazio said. "I thought Andre (Harris) did a great job defensively. He's done so all year. He has length that can give guys he guards problems."

Allen sealed the outcome tallying seven of Red Mountain's final 11 points with a couple strong moves to the basket and a three. A dunk by Andre Harris off an assist by Mayberry with 1:10 to go iced it.
