TUSD Volleyball Invitational

Aug. 31-Sept. 1: Sabino High School

 

Tanque Verde went 7-0 to capture the championship of the TUSD Invitational held at Sabino on Friday and Saturday. The Hawks beat Rincon/University 2-0 in the semifinal round and then Empire (25-10, 25-18) in the championship match.

Tanque Verde (9-0) was led by senior setter Shelby Lansing and junior outside Ainsley Malis. Lansing finished with 13 assists and three aces and Malis cashed in on six kills. The Hawks slowly pulled away for the 25-10 win in the first set but Empire (7-3) built a 15-11 lead in the second set only to see the Hawks go on a 14-3 run to close the match out.

"I think we are going to do well in state this year," Lansing said. "We kind of have things flowing and we are going to continue to grow."

Senior setter Delaney Barber led the Ravens with six assists.

Tanque Verde will host Catalina Foothills (2-0) on Tuesday, Sept. 4 and Empire will travel to Palo Verde (2-5) on the same night.
